Battalion Chief - Training

The Battalion Chief-Training is a full paid position and identified as both a first line supervisor of firefighter personnel and Senior Officer in the absence of the Fire Chief. The Battalion Chief-Training will be responsible for training and will assist NCRFA's Administration with duties previously assigned to the BC of Operations. The daytime BC will place special emphasis on going out and training with crews and developing Suggested Operating Guidelines, Training Manuals, and standardized drills to enhance crew performance and safety. S/he supervises and coordinates the operations of assigned station personnel and apparatus at emergency scenes and during non-emergency activities when deemed necessary. They will maintain a CPR Instructor Certification. The Battalion Chief-Training shall serve as the Senior Officer in the absence of the Fire Chief.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, in physically and mentally stressful situations to include extreme temperatures, contaminated atmosphere, hazardous materials, heights, confined areas and medical trauma situations. The Battalion Chief uses a variety of equipment, including: computers, emergency vehicles, hose, rescue equipment, saws, two-way radios, ladders etc.

Individuals may be subject to all hazards associated with fire suppression and emergency medical service responses, including but not limited to; the dangers associated with inclement weather, unpleasant odors, heat, noise levels, hazardous materials, burns, hazardous traffic conditions, communicable diseases, and contact with persons under severe emotional distress.

What to expect at the National Testing Network Website:

Upon completion of the exam and CPAT testing, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to North County Fire/EMS. North County Fire/EMS will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to continue to participate in other stages of the department selection process.

National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct testing and CPAT testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace North County Fire/EMS's responsibility and decision making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to North County Fire/EMS where the final decisions are made.
